Singer-songwriter Mariah Carey has reason to celebrate following a recent victory in a lawsuit related to her iconic hit ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’.

The legal battle over this beloved festive track began in 2023 when two songwriters, Andy Stone and Troy Powers of Vince Vance & The Valiants, sued her. They claimed that she had infringed upon their 1989 song of the same name, seeking $20 million in compensation.

In a turn of events, a judge dismissed the lawsuit, but the legal issues didn’t end there. Recently, the judge ordered that Stone and Powers must pay compensation to Mariah Carey. Reports indicate she has been awarded $92,303.20 in sanctions. The judge criticized the lawsuit for lacking merit, stating there was justification to deter the filing of frivolous lawsuits.

Within the released court documents, Stone mentioned that the Vince Vance & The Valiants song had received substantial airplay during the 1993 holiday season, the year prior to Carey’s version’s release, marking this as a significant point in their argument.

Adding to her success, Mariah Carey recently celebrated another milestone: her festive track achieved its 100th week at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This remarkable feat coincided with her 1994 song’s return to the top spot, marking a total of 100 weeks at Number 1 when combined with 18 of her other hits, such as ‘Visions of Love’, ‘Emotions’, ‘Touch My Body’, and ‘My All’.

The makers of director Mani Thellagutie’s much-anticipated spiritual supernatural thriller, ‘Trikanda,’ featuring Mahendran and Shraddha Das in lead roles, are considering a release date of January 23 next year.

Producer Srinivas revealed in an exclusive conversation that the film was shot in Chennai and Hyderabad over approximately 60 to 70 days.

When questioned about the release plans, Srinivas stated, “We are considering releasing the film on January 23 next year. That is because devout believers of God are our target audience. Many of the believers are on a holy trip to Sabarimala to offer prayers. We wish to release this film at a time once everybody returns. So, at the moment, we are considering releasing the film on January 23. We haven’t finalized anything as of now.”

The film’s trailer was recently launched at Prasad Lab in Chennai, attended by media personnel.

The trailer opens with gripping sequences that showcase dark powers at work. A voiceover ominously states, “We wage a war for it to dawn. But the war waged by this demon of darkness is to prevent dawn from arriving forever.”

Shraddha Das’s character, a psychiatrist, believes a patient she is handling suffers from bipolar disorder, not realizing he is under the influence of evil forces. The trailer suggests an intense battle between good and evil will unfold.

In addition to Mahendran and Shraddha Das, the film boasts a talented cast, including Ajay, Sahithi Avancha, Nandha Durairaj, and Amani in pivotal roles. Hollywood actor Channing Tatum has paid tribute to the late James Ransone following his death at the age of 46.

Channing Tatum remembered Ransone as “one of the realest” in a heartfelt statement shared on his Instagram Story after they worked together in Dito Montiel’s 2011 crime thriller ‘The Son of No One’, as reported by Deadline.
