Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow is back on the big screen after a seven-year break, returning to her roots in independent filmmaking, which she describes as her favorite.
Supporting Role in ‘Marty Supreme’
Paltrow makes a splash in a supporting role in “Marty Supreme.” She portrays Kay Stone, a former actress now living as the wife of a business mogul, played by Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary in his acting debut. Her performance showcases her ability to create intriguing, layered characters.
Record-Breaking Release
According to reports, “Marty Supreme” set records during its limited six-theater run last weekend, and the critically acclaimed film featuring Timothée Chalamet is releasing on Christmas Day. Paltrow noted that she had never seen Chalamet in anything prior to taking on this role, nor had she watched any Safdie films. She expressed joy in returning to a project that has received such positive attention.
Facing Insecurities and Changes in Hollywood
Paltrow also reflected on the irony of playing a character returning to acting in a very different landscape. She admitted to feeling a bit insecure about whether she still had the chops, especially since she’s been away from filmmaking, focusing on her successful business with Goop. The industry has changed significantly, including the use of intimacy coordinators for her scenes with Chalamet, and she found it refreshing to play an older woman involved with a younger man.
Reflecting on the Past
The actress recounted her Oscar win for “Shakespeare in Love” at the age of 26 but confessed she hardly remembers that moment, joking that her memorable pink dress may be more famous than she is. She shared that her godfather, Steven Spielberg, provided her with an early opportunity by casting her as Wendy in “Hook.” Paltrow reminisced about her time at Miramax and her working relationship with Harvey Weinstein, expressing complex feelings but pride in the films they produced, stating she has no regrets.
