  • Filmmakers of ‘Parasakthi’ seek Censor Board’s Revising Committee as suggested cuts spark debate

Filmmakers of ‘Parasakthi’ seek Censor Board’s Revising Committee as suggested cuts spark debate

If the ongoing buzz in the film industry is true, the makers of Sudha Kongara’s much-anticipated period film, ‘Parasakthi’, featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela in lead roles, have decided to approach the Central Board of Film Certification’s Revising Committee. This move comes after the Censor Board suggested extensive cuts to the film.

Rumours indicate that the Censor Board recommended certain cuts in scenes related to the anti-Hindi agitation, leading to dissatisfaction among the filmmakers. As a result, they are seeking the Revision Committee’s intervention. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding this development.

Recently, the film’s release date was advanced to January 10 next year, changing from its original schedule of January 14, which aligned with the Pongal festival.

Dawn Pictures, the production company behind ‘Parasakthi’, announced via social media that the film’s release has been preponed to January 10, 2026. Their statement read: “We wish to inform the media, trade, and audiences that the release of ‘Parasakthi’ has been preponed to January 10, 2026. This decision follows extensive discussions and repeated requests from exhibitors and distributors worldwide, who have expressed strong confidence in the film’s theatrical potential during this period.”

‘Parasakthi’ has generated significant anticipation among fans and film enthusiasts. Notably, Sivakarthikeyan began dubbing for the film in the last week of November.

Set in the 1960s in the then state of Madras, ‘Parasakthi’ has captured the interest of both fans and film buffs. The teaser released by the team depicts the narrative unfolding at Pachaiyappa’s College, showcasing Sivakarthikeyan’s character as a fearless leader rallying students for a protest against an unjust system. The teaser highlights a wall emblazoned with the order ‘Students – do not touch,’ which is serendipitously altered to ‘Do not touch students.’

Additionally, the teaser hints at a tense conflict, revealing that Ravi Mohan’s character is intent on killing Sivakarthikeyan’s character.

Tentatively titled #SK25, signifying it as Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th film, ‘Parasakthi’ features music by G V Prakash and boasts cinematography by the seasoned Ravi K Chandran. Action sequences in the film are choreographed by Supreme Sundar.

Filmmaker Frank Darabont returns from retirement to direct episodes of ‘Stranger Things’ final season.

Filmmaker Frank Darabont was relatively new to retirement when the first season of the streaming sensation ‘Stranger Things’ debuted in 2016.

Having completed his final directing project with the 2013 ‘Mob City’ episode titled ‘Red Light’, Darabont relocated to California’s Central Coast with his wife. There, he could enjoy the legacy of his remarkable filmography, which includes hits like ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, ‘The Green Mile’, ‘The Mist’, and episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘The Shield’, and ‘Tales from the Crypt’, among others.

The admiration was mutual; Darabont and his wife had binge-watched the Netflix series’ first four seasons multiple times. The agents arranged a friendly meeting while the Duffers were still in the development phase of the show’s fifth and final season.

Episode 5, named ‘Shock Jock’, will kick off the three-episode second volume on December 25. Whatever religion you are, all religions preach the same; whether it’s Jesus or Guru Nanak, it’s all about being kind, having empathy, and showing compassion, and that’s kind of what Christmas is about for me.”
