Actress Mithila Palkar, currently seen in the recently released film ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos’, has shared an insightful trick imparted by her director Vir Das.
During promotions for the film, Mithila mentioned that Vir advised her to concentrate solely on her lines, without stressing over the comedic punchlines or their timing. This guidance proved pivotal, helping her unlock a new acting skill.
“He told me, ‘Don’t overthink it. I have to make people laugh right now. You’re not; it’s not your job as Roopa to make people laugh. People will laugh with you when you say your lines.’ Basically, he emphasized, ‘Don’t play that comedy. Just say the lines, and the comedy will happen.’ This was incredibly helpful,” she stated.
Mithila also added, “Yes, it’s a different genre, but I’m still an actor doing what I know best. Who better than Vir Das to guide me through comedy? I felt safe in his hands. Even if I got lost, he would steer me back. There were moments on set when we would riff off each other, which was a lot of fun.”
Recognized for her roles in Hindi films, web series, and television, Mithila trained in acting and theatre before gaining fame through digital platforms. She gained prominence with web series like ‘Girl in the City’ and ‘Little Things’, which played a significant role in shaping India’s web-content ecosystem.
Her transition to films includes appearances in ‘Karwaan’ and ‘Chopsticks’. Mithila has also contributed to Marathi cinema, including the film ‘Muramba’. Her career embodies the evolution towards digital-first storytelling in India, spanning streaming platforms, films, and advertising.
