This year, in order to celebrate the 70th Republic Day with India, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will be the chief guest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Mr. Ramaphosa to be the Chief Guest on this honorable day.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Saturday said in a tweet: “President Ramaphosa accepted India’s invitation to be the Chief Guest at Republic Day during the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.” PM Modi said the upcoming visit will help “cement ties between India and South Africa”. In another tweet, he said, “Bapu’s close links with South Africa is well known”.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump was invited to be the Chief Guest. But he declined the invitation and his administration had said he has a “crowded agenda” and can’t be in India for the Republic Day.

This is the first time four Indian National Army Veterans aged more than 90 years going to take part in the Republic Day 2019 Parade.

This time the number of women from armed forces taking part in this year’s Republic Day 2019 Parade would be the highest till date. This will show the growth rate of the gender in the Indian Armed services. Additionally, Captain Shikha Surabhi of the Army’s Corps of Signal will be saluting President Ram Nath Kovind while standing on a bike.

Republic Day History

After getting Independence on 15th August 1947, India did not have a permanent constitution. At that time also the laws were according to the modified colonial Government of India Act 1935.  In 1947, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the chairman. He, later on, teamed up with the Drafting Committee and draft a Constitution.

After getting completed, on November 4, 1947, the draft of the constitution gets submitted to the Constituent Assembly. After receiving the draft, members of assembly started debating on the clauses given in the draft. Later on, on 24th January, 308 members signed the signed both copies of the document (one in Hindi and another in the English language that to Hands Written).

Afterward, finally, on 26th January 1950, the Constitution of India came into Effect. On that day, Truly India got its Independence and called a Republic Nation. That is why 26th January every year is celebrated as the Republic Day of India.
