Shweta Tripathi on India’s Global Storytelling: Proud of Conversations on Equality and Mental Health

Actress Shweta Tripathi has shared her thoughts on what makes her proud of Indian stories on a global scale. She expressed her satisfaction with how discussions around equality and mental health are now part of mainstream conversations.

Global Conversations in Mainstream

As the year concludes, Shweta commented, “First, I think one thing that I’m very happy about is seeing global conversations around equality, mental health, and inclusivity finally move into the mainstream. This has become a part of our everyday conversations. We are so aware of not just what is happening with others but what is happening with ourselves to our minds and body. So I think that was required and needed. There seems to be more understanding, and I really hope that increases and so does empathy.”

Recognition of Indian Stories

She also highlighted the growing recognition of Indian stories beyond borders. “Second thing would be Indian stories finding a confident global voice. Be it our cinema, art, culture, it’s being recognized beyond borders.”

The Impact of OTT Platforms

Shweta further noted the excitement brought by the rise of OTT platforms. “It has been very exciting personally and professionally for me as an actor, as a producer, and also as an audience because people across the globe are raising the bar. That always encourages and motivates you to keep at it, even on those days where you feel you couldn’t do it. When I see a show, a film, or read a book or a play, it always gives me that extra kick which I’m hoping will multiply into many more kicks for many more people.”

Empowerment of Women and Young Girls

She emphasized the empowerment of women and young girls across various fields. “Third would be the rise of women 100%, the rise of women and young girls across all fields—from sports, like us winning the World Cup, to science, politics, and the arts. They are also challenging long-held stereotypes.”

Reshaping Leadership

Shweta remarked, “I think it was high time for that. There have always been men and women challenging these issues, but now, thanks to social media and how connected we are, more of these stories are emerging. Challenging stereotypes as an actor, as a human, as an artist is always very exciting and reshaping leadership.”

India’s Presence on the World Stage

Lastly, she praised India’s cultural and creative assertion on the world stage. “Fourth would be a country, India asserting itself not just economically but culturally and creatively, with pride and originality about who we are and what we stand for.”
