Filmmaker Steven Spielberg declined to collaborate with Ben Affleck, and the reason behind this decision is surprising.

Spielberg’s refusal stems from an incident where Affleck reportedly made his son cry. Screenwriter Mike Binder revealed that he wrote the 2006 film ‘Man About Town’ with the understanding that Spielberg would direct it and release it through his DreamWorks company. However, the project was abandoned when Spielberg learned that Affleck was set to play a Hollywood agent.

During a conversation on Stephen Baldwin’s ‘One Bad Movie’ podcast, Mike shared, “He said, ‘We gotta do something together. I want you to write something for me.’ At the time, we both lived up in the Palisades, and we talked about power and struggles. He was also dealing with a situation where a guy had broken into his house late at night with plans to harm him. It was just horrible.”

According to reports, Spielberg ultimately decided not to direct but wanted to keep ‘Man About Town’ at DreamWorks with Mike as director. However, after Binder struck a deal with Affleck, Spielberg was not pleased.

Mike recounted, “We make a deal that he’s gonna do it, we shake hands, he’ll do it. I call Steven, and he says, ‘No. Can’t do it with him. We just bombed with a movie with him, he’s got that whole J-Lo thing going on now, and I have other problems with him.’”

The filmmaker recalled an incident during a family vacation when Affleck and his son had an altercation. “My son was a little boy, playing in the pool, and he got out. Ben came in fully dressed, and my son pushed Ben into the pool. Ben got really mad, picked him up, threw him back into the pool, and made my son cry.”

Mike questioned the relevance of the incident, to which Spielberg replied, “I just don’t like to work with him. Plus, his last two movies bombed. Find somebody else. Anyone but him. He’s cold as hell.”

When Mike conveyed the news to Ben’s agents, Affleck immediately understood the situation. The 67-year-old comic shared, “Ben calls me up, saying, ‘Did Steven Spielberg tell you I threw his kid in the water? Is that why I’m not on your movie?’ I said, ‘No, he didn’t say.’ He insisted, ‘Yes, he did! He told you I threw his kid in the water. That’s why I’m not on the movie.’”

Despite Mike’s desire to keep Affleck in the lead role, he informed Spielberg of his intentions. The next day, DreamWorks dropped the project, which was eventually released by Lionsgate.

Hollywood actor Kevin Costner and the producers of his upcoming Western film, ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2’, are facing a breach of contract lawsuit.

A company that rented costumes to the film’s production claims it is owed over $400,000, as reported by ‘People’ magazine.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges that Costner, 70, along with various entities associated with ‘Horizon: An American Saga’, entered into an agreement with the Western Costume Leasing Company. This agreement was for providing “valuable costumes” for the film.

According to ‘People’, the complaint states that Costner and his co-defendants did not make timely payments for the costumes, resulting in an outstanding balance of $134,256.82. The suit claims that producers of ‘Horizon’ did not dispute the receipt or quality of the costumes.

It further accuses the filmmakers of using the rented costumes in the film while failing to settle multiple invoices. The lawsuit seeks over $350,000 in damages, which includes the unpaid costume rentals and additional economic damages amounting to $150,000.

In addition, Western Costume Leasing Company is requesting $200,000 in attorney’s fees and $40,000 in accrued interest. The suit also seeks $100,000 in punitive damages, along with “such further relief as the Court deems just and proper.”

‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2’ marks the second installment in Costner’s Western epic film series, featuring a cast that includes Sienna Miller and Giovanni Ribisi. After the first chapter was underwhelming at the box office, the release of Chapter 2 was postponed. Nevertheless, it was screened at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2025 and at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February. Interestingly, Chapter 1 gained traction after being made available on streaming platforms.

Actress Maanvi Gagroo, known for her role as Siddhi Patel in the hit series Four More Shots Please, has called for greater sensitivity and responsibility from storytellers regarding the representation of women on screen.

When discussing the portrayal of female-centric characters over the years, Maanvi noted, “If we specifically look at how women have been represented on screen, it has reflected a certain mindset for a long time.”

She pointed out that women who indulge in drinking are often depicted as ‘bad’ or ‘bigdi hui (spoilt)’ characters. She explained that these portrayals typically culminate in a dramatic turn where the character transforms into a pure, pious ‘sudhri hui ladki’ (good girl), adhering to societal expectations by forsaking alcohol, donning Indian attire, and behaving accordingly.

Maanvi strongly advocates for filmmakers to be more mindful of their character portrayals, particularly regarding women. She stated, “Art imitates life, and life imitates art; it works both ways. As the world changes, these ideas also need to change. This isn’t to say that smoking, drinking, or partying is good; it’s not, and honestly, to each their own. If someone can handle it, that’s their choice. But as storytellers, we need to be more aware, if not responsible, about what we are portraying and reinforcing.”

Previously, Maanvi addressed why women face constant scrutiny for their choices, whereas men often escape judgment, even for illogical actions. She questioned, “I feel there is constant judgement around what women do whether they drink or not, smoke or not, or party or not. Nobody seems to judge men for things like peeing on the roads. So why aren’t men being judged in the same way? They should be, right?!”

Her concern lies in the stark contrast in societal judgment between genders. “Let’s get both genders on an equal level first. Before even discussing whether the judgment is right or wrong, we need to ask whether judging anyone is fair in the first place, to be honest,” Maanvi concluded.
