  • Zeenat Aman Revives ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ Magic on Indian Idol, Dances with Contestant Anshika

Zeenat Aman Revives ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ Magic on Indian Idol, Dances with Contestant Anshika

A whiff of nostalgia swept through as evergreen icon Zeenat Aman brought back the magic of her legendary chartbuster ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ on the “Indian Idol” stage.

With contestant Anshika’s powerful and soulful rendition of the iconic song, originally from the 1971 film “Haré Rama Haré Krishna,” nostalgia filled the air, transforming the performance into a full-blown celebration. Zeenat couldn’t resist stepping onto the stage and dancing to the timeless track, instantly earning thunderous applause from the judges, contestants, and audience alike. The moment grew even more special when Kartik Aaryan joined the veteran diva on the dance floor.

Overwhelmed by the rendition, Zeenat affectionately told Anshika: “Oh my Dombivli darling, aap Indian Idol ke sartaj ho mere liye.”

“Hare Rama Hare Krishna” is a 1971 Indian Hindi-language satirical musical drama film written, produced, and directed by Dev Anand. It stars Dev Anand himself, alongside Mumtaz, Zeenat Aman, and Prem Chopra in lead roles. The film deals with the decadence of the Hippie culture, aiming to convey an anti-drug message while depicting issues associated with Westernization.

The film was a hit and a star-making vehicle for Aman, who portrayed a westernized hippie. It was influenced by the 1968 American psychedelic film, “Psych-Out.” The idea for the film actually came to Dev Anand during his visit to Kathmandu, Nepal, where he encountered hippies living there.

“Indian Idol” airs on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.

Zeenat Aman established herself as one of the highest-paid actresses of her time. She began acting in 1971, featuring in films like “The Evil Within,” “Hungama,” and “Hulchul.” Her breakthrough came with Dev Anand’s drama film “Hare Rama Hare Krishna.”

She was soon seen in a series of hits such as “Yaadon Ki Baaraat,” “Roti Kapada Aur Makaan,” “Ajanabee,” “Warrant,” “Chori Mera Kaam,” “Dharam Veer,” “Chhailla Babu,” “Hum Kisise Kum Naheen,” and “The Great Gambler.” Zeenat also starred in the action film “Don” and “Satyam Shivam Sundaram.”

She then had leading roles in films like “Abdullah,” “Alibaba Aur 40 Chor,” “Qurbani,” “Dostana,” “Insaf Ka Tarazu,” “Laawaris,” “Teesri Aankh,” “Mahaan,” “Pukar,” and “Jagir.”

Most recently, the actress was seen in the series “The Royals,” alongside Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter. The show follows a royal family’s financial struggles and has become a popular hit, even getting renewed for a second season.

Arjun Rampal praises “Border 2” team for their teaser, celebrating new talent and Sunny Deol’s return.

Actor Arjun Rampal recently congratulated the team behind the upcoming war drama, “Border 2,” after experiencing the high-energy teaser of the film.

He expressed his admiration for Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, acknowledging their fresh addition to the franchise while also highlighting the strong presence of veteran Sunny Deol, who starred in the original film.

He further added, “Look forward to seeing them in action under the direction of @anurag_singh_films. All the best to the whole team.. #Border2.”

At the teaser launch event, Varun Dhawan shared an entertaining anecdote. He revealed how he insisted that a particular dialogue be included in the film with some help from Sunny Deol.

While filming the sequel, the crew heard a war cry from the aspirants at the academy where part of the movie was shot. A senior officer had shouted to rouse the aspirants, asking, “Awaaz kahan tak jaani chaahiye? Lahore tak (Where shall the voice reach? It should reach Lahore).”

Varun felt it was essential to feature this line. He explained, “I thought, we must include this bit. If they didn’t write it, then they wouldn’t have added it to the script. I then went to Sunny sir and said in his ear, ‘Sir, please do this, this is a very big and real moment. Please use this.’”

He added, “That’s why I use it only in the teaser. Okay, do it. Then I didn’t know if it would work, so I went after Sunny paaji. I mean I can’t tell you, I got goosebumps. The one who was the trainer, I mean, what a voice it must have actually reached Lahore, the way it was doing.”

He also presented other acclaimed films, including “Birdman,” which won best picture in 2015, and “21 Grams.”

  • Kate Winslet Shares Her Unique Superstitions: Salt in Shoes for Protection from Tricky People

Kate Winslet Shares Her Unique Superstitions: Salt in Shoes for Protection from Tricky People

Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet recently shared her quirky superstitious practice of putting salt in her shoes and pockets to shield herself from “tricky individuals.”

In a conversation on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Winslet discussed her co-star Toni Collette’s character, Helen, in the film Goodbye June. Helen is described as “journeying and very holistic” during a poignant time when her on-screen mother, June (played by Helen Mirren), is dying over the Christmas period.

When asked if she has tried crystal healing or sound baths—something that seems quintessentially Hollywood—Winslet responded: “I haven’t actually done a sound bath, no. I do have a slight allergic reaction to anything that is described as Hollywoody. I know what you mean. I’m not opposed to a little bit of a talisman-y something or other-y. I don’t mind that.”

The host inquired about “a bit of saging,” to which she replied: “Not necessarily sage. A bit of salt in your shoes, though. A bit of salt in your pockets.”

When prompted about whether that superstition is an “energy thing,” the star confirmed: “Yes. If you are encountering tricky individuals in life, shall we say, a little bit of protection by salt in the pocket… Soaks up the toxicity and doesn’t go into you. I have done that.”

The host humorously remarked, “That’s where I’m going wrong. I need to fill my pockets with salt,” to which Winslet added, “Shove salt in your shoes. Totally nuts!”

In 2024, Winslet expressed her appreciation for Emma Thompson, commending her for being “protective” and always offering wise advice. Speaking at the 92NY Center for Culture and Arts, she stated, “(Emma) has a groundedness and a clarity of perception about the industry as a whole. She was quite sort of protective of me.”

Thompson showed concern for Winslet after her career-defining role as Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic. Winslet recalled, “I think she was actually just a bit worried—not, ‘is Kate gonna go off the rails?’ because clearly that wasn’t in my personality—but just that it can be very overwhelming, and what was I gonna do?”

She also shared Thompson’s advice: “She did say to me… just remember, it’s equally as important not to work as it is to work. And I have never forgotten that. I knew that I didn’t want this to run out. I wanted to always be doing this job. And I thought, God, if I do it, then maybe people would get sick of me and argue, ‘Well, not her anymore, and let’s move on to somebody else.’”
