The North Bombay Durga Puja Pandal transformed into a vibrant celebration of tradition as Kajol and her daughter Nysa Devgan were seen participating in the festive “Shindur Khela” rituals.
The mother-daughter duo garnered attention with a heartwarming display of affection while posing for the paparazzi, showcasing a rare moment of familial love. Shindur Khela is a ritual wherein women and young girls smear vermilion on each other, symbolizing prosperity and the strength of womanhood.
Kajol, elegantly draped in a traditional white and red Bengali sari with a chequered “pallu,” was seen guiding Nysa and her friends on how to apply Shindur to the idol of Maa Durga. Nysa, radiating joy in a sunset orange salwar kameez adorned with golden lace, was fully immersed in the rituals, learning cultural nuances from her mother.
The warm bond between Kajol and Nysa, highlighted by their candid gestures, became the focal point of the celebrations. Both looked stunning, merging glamour with the sanctity of the occasion and reinforcing how traditional and modern expressions can coexist.
Popular TV actress Rupli Ganguly also participated in the ‘Sindoor Khela’ celebrations on the last day of Durga Puja.
The annual Durga Puja holds deep significance for the Mukerji family. Nearly seven decades ago, it was Kajol’s grandmother who established the North Bombay Durga Puja, and the family continues to proudly uphold this legacy.
Over the years, the Puja has transformed into a star-studded affair, attracting numerous Bollywood personalities. On October 1st, the Pandal welcomed filmmaker Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra, who joined in the festivities, warmly received by members of the Mukerji clan, including Rani Mukerji, Tanishaa Mukerji, and filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee. Notably, Ayan, Rani, and Kajol are first cousins, demonstrating strong family ties at the heart of the celebrations.
