How Selvaraghavan’s ‘Pudhupettai’ Transformed ‘Dada’ Director Ganesh Babu’s Cinema Perspective

Director Ganesh K Babu, known for the superhit film ‘Dada,’ recently revealed that ace director Selvaraghavan’s film ‘Pudhupettai’ significantly altered his perspective on cinema.

Currently, Ganesh is directing the much-anticipated political thriller ‘Karathey Babu,’ starring actor Ravi Mohan. He shared a photo of himself with Selvaraghavan on X, expressing his gratitude:

“‘Pudhupettai’ reshaped how I saw cinema. It guided #Dada and now #KaratheyBabu. @selvaraghavan sir became the reason I chose this path… the reason I became a filmmaker. Meeting him today felt like a circle closing. #selvaraghavan #KokkiKumarXKaratheyBabu.”

In ‘Karathey Babu,’ Ravi Mohan portrays a politician, Shanmugha Babu, representing the R K Nagar constituency. For this demanding role, he underwent a transformation, shedding up to 12 kilos.

Earlier this year, the teaser unveiled a scene set in the State Legislative Assembly. Here, the Leader of the Opposition, played by K S Ravi Kumar, questions the Speaker about the Chief Minister’s (played by Nasser) curiosity regarding the old name of the RK Nagar constituency representative. The Chief Minister explains the significance of names, after which Shanmugha Babu stands to reveal that he was called Karathey Babu, a name given to him by the people of RK Nagar 17 years ago.

‘Karathey Babu’ boasts cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, music by Sam C S, and editing by Kathiresh Alagesan. The well-known director Rathna Kumar has co-written the script, featuring Daudee Jiwal in the female lead role.
