  • Waheeda Rehman Shares Shocking Moment: Director Wanted Her to Kiss a Snake’s Hood!

Waheeda Rehman Shares Shocking Moment: Director Wanted Her to Kiss a Snake’s Hood!

The legendary actress Waheeda Rehman recently shared a fascinating anecdote from the shooting of the English version of her iconic film ‘Guide’.

In a video resurfaced by India’s state broadcaster Doordarshan, she recounted an amusing moment when the English version’s director suggested she kiss the hood of a snake during a dance scene. Waheeda recalled, “My favourite dance is the snake charmer’s dance from ‘Guide’. When the movie was being made in English, the director told me in the middle of the dance that, ‘You get so lost while dancing that you kiss the hood of the snake.’ I said, ‘What are you saying? How can I do that?’ He replied, ‘You are an Indian girl, why can’t you do it?’ I said, ‘Being Indian doesn’t mean we play with snakes.’ He insisted, ‘No, I have conceived this shot because when this appears on the big screen, there will be so many claps.’”

Directed by Vijay Anand, ‘Guide’ is based on R.K. Narayan’s celebrated novel and features Dev Anand as Raju, a tourist guide whose life dramatically changes after meeting Rosie, portrayed by Waheeda Rehman, who is trapped in an oppressive marriage. The film is hailed as one of the most significant classics in Indian cinema.

Raju aids Rosie in pursuing her passion for dance, leading to the blossoming of their relationship. However, ambition, betrayal, and moral dilemmas soon turn Raju’s life upside down. The story transitions from romance to a profound exploration of spirituality and redemption, with Raju evolving from a disgraced guide into a revered saint, grappling with themes of fate, free will, and faith.

The English version of the film was directed by Polish-American filmmaker Tad Danielewski. It is renowned for the music of S.D. Burman, featuring timeless songs like ‘Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai’. The film’s narrative and performances have left a lasting impact, marking a significant milestone in storytelling by blending commercial appeal with philosophical depth.

  • Soha Ali Khan Reflects on Dad Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s Historic Rise as India’s Youngest Test Captain

Soha Ali Khan Reflects on Dad Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s Historic Rise as India’s Youngest Test Captain

On the death anniversary of her father, cricket legend Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, actress Soha Ali Khan reminisced about the moment he became India’s youngest Test captain.

    Celebrating a Remarkable Legacy

Soha reflected on her father’s exceptional legacy and the pride he instilled in their family and the nation. Sharing her memories on Instagram, the “Rang De Basanti” actress posted throwback pictures captioned, “Today and always My Abba.” Alongside these, she included a heartfelt note that celebrated her father’s enduring presence in her life. One poignant photograph depicted her sitting next to a framed portrait of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, adorned with a candle and flowers as a quiet tribute.

In her handwritten note, Soha expressed, “To Mr. Tiger Happy Barsie! I love you..You are very funny, joyful, cool, and you have a big heart.” She also shared a nostalgic video clip of her father’s interview during his appointment as the captain of the Indian cricket team. The caption on the video stated, “Eve of 1974-75 WI series.”

    Courage Before a Tough Challenge

Ahead of the 1974-75 West Indies series, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi acknowledged the formidable strength of the West Indies team while remaining confident in India’s prospects on home soil. He emphasized the need for sharp fielding and strong catching to combat the opposition’s powerful pace attack.

In the clip, he stated, “Well we’re a little worried because they’ve got some pretty big guns with them and also, we haven’t done too well. It’s a question of rebuilding our confidence and morale but I reckon that given specific and right conditions for the Indian team we can certainly do well.”

He continued, “In fact, I haven’t really played against much of this but I think that probably on our wickets being slow as I hope they will be, we should be able to dull it a little bit. They are a good pace attack, and I’m sure the pace attack will get more of their wickets and the spinners will. Well, given the right conditions, I think we can bowl them out, but they have to be specific conditions and it also depends on the composition of our team. I mean we’ve got to have some very good close-in catching and if our close-in catching is successful, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t do well but as I said, it’s going to be a pretty tough series.”

    End of an Era

For those unacquainted, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passed away on September 22, 2011, at the age of 70 due to a lung infection. His tragic demise marked the closing of a remarkable chapter in Indian cricket.

Bigg Boss 19: Kunickaa Sadanand’s Fiery Clash with Zeishan Quadri—”Go Back to Wasseypur!”

The Bigg Boss 19 house was rocked by yet another explosive confrontation, this time involving Zeishan Quadri and Kunickaa Sadanand. What began as a simple call for a house meeting swiftly escalated into a heated war of words, leaving the entire house shaken.

    The Incident Unfolds

The drama kicked off when Abhishek Bajaj attempted to wake up Zeishan, who was comfortably tucked in his blanket while all the contestants had gathered in the living room for a meeting regarding their weekly responsibilities.

Zeishan, however, refused to budge, bluntly stating that he was sleeping and wouldn’t join them immediately. This attitude did not sit well with Kunickaa, who angrily confronted him, asserting that he was not the king of the house to do as he pleased. Provoked by her comment, Zeishan stormed out of the bedroom, ready to confront Kunickaa.

    A War of Words Begins

In an intense exchange, he warned her that if she continued to cross boundaries and provoke him, he would no longer extend the basic respect he had still been maintaining. This was a clear indication that his patience was wearing thin.

The tension escalated as Kunickaa retaliated, telling Zeishan to go back to his Wasseypur. She mockingly dubbed him the “Gunda” of Wasseypur while proclaiming herself the maharani of Mumbai. With both strong personalities clashing, the atmosphere in the house became palpable with tension.

    Past Grudges Resurface

Earlier in the season, Zeishan had firmly defended Taniya Mittal when Kunickaa targeted her with unacceptable remarks about her mother, causing Taniya to break down in tears. Zeishan had fiercely condemned Kunickaa for her insensitivity.

The duo is known for their frequent confrontations, sharing a dynamic reminiscent of a Tom and Jerry relationship within the Bigg Boss 19 house.

  • Alia Bhatt Calls ‘Difficult Daughters’ Extra Special with Mom at the Helm!

Alia Bhatt Calls ‘Difficult Daughters’ Extra Special with Mom at the Helm!

Mother-daughter duo Alia Bhatt and Soni Razdan’s project “Difficult Daughters” is being showcased at Busan’s Asian Project Market. They have shared their vision for this adaptation of Manju Kapur’s acclaimed novel.

    Storyline Overview

“Difficult Daughters” unfolds across two timelines, centering on Virmati, the eldest of ten children in a traditional Punjabi household in 1940s Lahore. With a strong desire to pursue education and love, she defies societal expectations, ultimately facing unexpected consequences when she becomes the second wife of a married professor.

In 2022, Virmati’s granddaughter Simar confronts her own challenges, including a failing marriage and a secret affair. Discovering Virmati’s hidden past compels her to reconnect with her estranged mother, Ila.

    Vision for the Film

Razdan expressed to variety.com that the novel immediately sparked a visual inspiration. “When I read the book many years ago, it struck me as being very cinematically written. It is descriptive in a way that evokes both the inner landscape of the characters and the outer, actual canvas,” she shared. She found herself envisioning the story long before considering its adaptation into a film.

Razdan remarked, “While a nation was on the verge of attaining its independence, we have a young girl fighting for the same rights. However, at its core, this film is a personal story, or rather – stories – that unfold across two different time periods.”

    Directorial Insights

Having previously acted in “Yours Truly,” which screened at Busan in 2018, Razdan returns this year to direct “Difficult Daughters.” She emphasized the importance of authenticity in recreating the past. “Recreating 1940s small-town Amritsar in Punjab is essential, but equally crucial is the casting. So, actors, costumes, and set design are the most important elements, particularly for ‘Difficult Daughters.’ And last but not least, the music… there is a huge opportunity here to creatively blend past and present.”

    Personal Connection to the Project

Alia, one of India’s biggest stars and head of Eternal Sunshine Productions, considers the project both personal and aligned with her company’s ethos, as reported by variety.com. “At Eternal Sunshine, we are always on the lookout for stories that strike a deep chord and stay with the audience long after the film ends. ‘Difficult Daughters’ is undoubtedly one of those,” Alia stated.

“It’s extra special to have my mom direct it, but what truly makes it stand out for me is the shared belief we all have in this story. Busan is a beautiful first step in its journey, and we hope the film continues to spark conversations and connections wherever it goes—because stories like this don’t just belong to one place; they belong to everyone,” she added.
