Veteran actor Kamal Haasan shared his views on the current situation of independent cinema during his appearance at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) taking place in Goa.

Independent cinema should stay free
When asked to comment on the fact that independent cinema is still struggling in India, making its space, the ‘Indian’ actor said the movement must not be forced into the extremely confining space of commercialized cinema. He was heard saying, “Independent cinema is independent, don’t bring it into a very confining space of very commercialized cinema. Independent cinema is very independent; as free as India.”

Congratulates Amaran team at IFFI
Prior to this, Haasan congratulated the team of Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi’s “Amaran” as it was selected as the opening feature film in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India.

Uploading a poster of Rajkumar Periasamy’s directorial on his X (Previously known as Twitter) handle, a ‘proud’ Kamal Haasan wrote, “Proud to share the immortal Major Mukund Varadarajan’s story that stirred India’s soul will now echo across the world (sic).”

Actress Dia Mirza has wrapped up the shooting for her upcoming love story with Rahul Bhat.

Rahul Bhat and Dia Mirza have joined forces for an untitled love story, helmed by Indian-German filmmaker and screenwriter Kanwal Sethi. The popular crime-thriller series “Mirzapur” follows Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, a crime boss and businessman who rules over Mirzapur district in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh.

They announced that music director Thaman has recorded a “massive score” featuring Aishwarya and Saundarya, the great granddaughters of legendary Carnatic singer M. S. Subbulakshmi.
