Gulshan Devaiah has been on a roll with his back-to-back projects, reaffirming his acting prowess time and again. The actor is as bold and strong in real life as he is in reel life.
Challenging Projects
Gulshan consistently chooses roles that push his boundaries as an actor, which has helped him sustain a successful career in the entertainment industry for almost 15 years.
Changing Landscape of Casting
With the social media landscape evolving rapidly, one might wonder if the casting dynamics have shifted as well. When asked about this, Gulshan candidly remarked, “I don’t give a shit. It’s a trend. Is it valid? Does it have any real merit? I don’t know.” He expressed uncertainty about whether followers translate into ticket sales, stating, “But somebody who knows better than me is taking these decisions, and maybe they think it’s a good idea to hire someone based on that.” He added that some of those individuals are indeed good actors and emphasized his belief that everyone should find their own path.
On Authenticity
Using his own social media presence as an example, he pointed out, “Now open my social media and see how many followers I have. I don’t even have 300K. Yet, I am getting work.” When asked if he feels pressure to keep up with social media trends, he stated, “No, I am not taking that pressure. People are making reels and trending content — that’s up to them. It’s not up to my management. It’s not even up to the audience or my fans. It’s only up to me. If they like me and follow my work, it’s because I am the way I am. If I suddenly start changing for social media and become someone else, then I won’t be myself. My authentic self — that’s what matters to me!”
Recent Work and Reception
Currently, Gulshan is receiving great feedback for his recently released show, The Perfect Family, which features National Crush Girija Oak alongside him. The series addresses the mental health stigma prevalent in nearly every Indian household and has been praised for its sensitive storytelling and powerful performances.
In addition to Gulshan and Girija, the cast includes Seema Pahwa and Manoj Pahwa. The show is produced by Pankaj Tripathi and Ajay Rai, with direction by Sachin Pathak.
