As the television miniseries “The Railway Men” marks two years since its release, actor Sunny Hinduja, who portrayed journalist Jagmohan Kumawat, celebrated this milestone with a heartfelt social media post.
A Tribute to Heroes
Sunny referred to “The Railway Men” as a tribute to the selfless heroes who put their lives in danger while serving the nation. On his Instagram account, he expressed, “The Railway Men is a heartfelt tribute to the selfless heroes who put their lives on the line serving society and nation. I’m honored to have been part of this project. #2YearstoRailwayMen ❤️ (sic).” His post also featured a couple of behind-the-scenes glimpses from the show.
The Story Behind “The Railway Men”
Produced by YRF Entertainment, the streaming division of Yash Raj Films, “The Railway Men” tells the inspiring story of railway workers who saved numerous lives during the devastating 1984 gas leak at the Union Carbide India Limited plant in Bhopal. It highlights the efforts of station master Ghulam Dastagir and his team at the Bhopal Junction railway station.
For context, on December 3, 1984, over 500,000 people living near the pesticide plant were exposed to the deadly gas methyl isocyanate, resulting in one of the world’s worst industrial disasters.
Cast and Crew Highlights
The primary cast of the series features R. Madhavan as Rati Pandey, the general manager of the Central Railway zone; Kay Kay Menon as Iftekaar Siddiqui, the station master at Bhopal Junction; Divyenndu as Balwant Yadav, a robber posing as a police constable; and Babil Khan as Imad Riaz, an inexperienced loco pilot.
The technical crew includes Rubais as the cinematographer, Yasha Jaidev and Ramchandani as editors, and Sam Slater as the music composer.
