Renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal recently revisited one of her most cherished memories as she reminisced about meeting the late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, whom she affectionately referred to as a “goddess in a white saree.”
A Fond Tribute
Shreya took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the privilege of meeting the iconic artist. Along with her heartfelt words, she shared a picture of herself sitting next to Lata Mangeshkar, celebrated as the “Queen of Melody.”
“Thinking about the time I got the privilege of meeting Lata didi. Goddess in white saree as I fondly remember her,” Shreya wrote in her caption.
Lata Mangeshkar’s Legacy
Lata Mangeshkar, who recorded songs in over thirty-six Indian languages along with a few foreign ones—primarily in Hindi, Bengali, and Marathi—received numerous accolades throughout her illustrious career. She was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, the Bharat Ratna in 2001, and three National Film Awards.
Her remarkable achievements even earned her a spot in the Guinness World Records as the most recorded artist in history, a title later succeeded by her sister, Asha Bhosle.
Lata Mangeshkar passed away from multiple organ dysfunction syndrome on 6 February 2022, at the age of 92, after undergoing 28 days of treatment for pneumonia and Covid.
Shreya Ghoshal’s Acclaim
Shreya is celebrated for her wide vocal range and versatility, often referred to as the “Queen of Dynamics.” She has recorded songs for various films and albums in multiple Indian and foreign languages. Her talent has earned her numerous accolades, including five National Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, one Maharashtra State Award, one Telangana Gaddar Film Award, and a BFJA Award.
Her debut songs, “Bairi Piya” and “Dola Re Dola,” won her the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She has since received four more National Awards for tracks such as “Dheere Jalna,” “Yeh Ishq Haaye,” “Pherari Mon,” “Jeev Rangla,” and “Maayava Thooyava.”
