Selena Gomez Opens Up About Feeling “Vulnerable” About Her Voice in Recent Instagram Live Session

Hollywood actress-singer Selena Gomez has expressed feeling “vulnerable” about her voice. During an Instagram Live session, the 33-year-old artist addressed a fan’s question regarding the changes in her vocal tone over the years.

“Yeah I’ve gotten this question a few times. The voice thing. So, sometimes when I’m on, nevermind,” she noted before shifting the conversation. “There’s no excuse. I don’t really care. I think my point is that sometimes things happen. I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all.”

Gomez has been open about the difficulties she has faced after being diagnosed with lupus and bipolar disorder. In a recent episode of the podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, she revealed her struggle with arthritis caused by lupus, which influenced the design of her Rare Beauty products.

“I have arthritis in my fingers, and that’s due to my lupus. Before the brand, I struggled to open a water bottle because it hurt really bad before I was on the right medication. We somehow inherently made the products easy to open, and then we realized, wait, they kind of have to be that way. And then we started to make every product with the intention of working for anybody who has dexterity problems,” she explained.

In addition to serious discussions about her health, Gomez also answered lighthearted questions. Recently, she shared a humorous interaction on her Instagram Stories, where a follower asked her, “How do you shave your mustache?” A make-up free Gomez laughed it off and clarified that what appeared to be a five o’clock shadow was simply discoloration from “my melasma.”

“I take care of it and treat it, but yeah it’s there. I totally get it. It’s from the sun,” she said, urging her audience to use sunscreen.
