Mark Wahlberg Reveals His Winning Formula: The Power of Discipline

Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg has shared insights into the keys to his career success, attributing it largely to discipline.

Discipline as a Cornerstone of Success

The 54-year-old actor, known for his early-morning wake-ups and strict gym routine, emphasized this in an interview with Extra. He stated, “Discipline has afforded me many wonderful things in my life. It’s a thing that I really attribute to all my success, both personally and professionally… I recommend it to everybody.”

Excitement Around His Latest Project

Wahlberg’s latest film, Play Dirty, is an action-packed heist thriller. He expressed his excitement about working on the Shane Black-directed project, mentioning that it is based on “some pretty incredible and beloved source material.” He added, “To get my own opportunity to take my own swing at it and really do it with somebody like Shane Black who infused a lot more humour… it’s great.”

He noted that the appeal of the film lies in “the wit and the dialogue and the twist in the plot and their plan and their heist.”

A Strong Filmography

With a successful career spanning several hits, including Boogie Nights, Planet of the Apes, and The Italian Job, Wahlberg remains a prominent figure in Hollywood. He also discussed his interest in revisiting his 1996 psychological thriller, Fear. “If I could play the dad in Fear, I mean, I’ve lived this now with my daughters,” he reflected.

Overcoming Initial Fears

Wahlberg previously admitted to feeling “terrified” about starring in Boogie Nights. In this 1997 drama, he portrayed adult film star Dirk Diggler. Initially hesitant to take on the role, he wanted to distance himself from his Calvin Klein modeling past.

“I was terrified because it was like, the pitch was tough. It’s like Ted, a guy and a teddy bear smoking weed. That doesn’t sound very appealing, right? Or a porn star,” he recalled. He was apprehensive, having just transitioned from his modeling career and remembered the lackluster reception of Showgirls.

Despite his initial concerns, after meeting with director Paul Thomas Anderson, Wahlberg understood the vision for the film. He said, “As soon as I met with him, it was like, ‘Okay, I get it.’” With that realization, he finished the script and was cast in the role. Reflecting on their ages back then, he noted, “We were both 25 at the time. It was wild.”
