Bollywood multi-hyphenate Farhan Akhtar’s mother, screenwriter Honey Irani, recently shared a heartfelt moment when she first felt proud of her son. Remarkably, she was unaware that Farhan was working on the script for his debut film.
In a recent episode of the music reality show ‘Indian Idol,’ the makers shared a clip featuring Farhan, his mother Honey Irani, and his sister Zoya Akhtar.
Honey expressed her sentiments to Farhan, saying, “I’m sorry because we have never worked together. I mean, I’ve never worked for you, you’ve never worked for me. So I hope we’ll change that in the future. And also sorry for getting a lot of beating from me. I think I couldn’t have asked for a better son. I’m really, really, really, really proud of him.”
When the show host inquired about the moment she felt this pride for the first time, Honey revealed, “When he came to me and said that Aamir has said yes to my script. I didn’t even know that he was writing. So, that was a very proud moment for me.”
Honey was referring to Farhan’s directorial debut, ‘Dil Chahta Hai.’ Before writing the script for this iconic film, Farhan was somewhat lost in life. However, he found his true calling through ‘Dil Chahta Hai,’ which has since become a timeless piece of cinema with a dedicated fan following. Released in 2001, the film is celebrated for its fresh storytelling and its exploration of friendships in urban India.
‘Dil Chahta Hai’ broke the conventional mold and narrated the story of a group of elite friends in Mumbai, showcasing how they navigate life’s complexities and the impact on their relationships as they mature and pursue their professional lives.
The film also featured chartbuster music that resonated deeply with the youth of India. Over the years, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ has only gained strength in its appeal, solidifying its status as a rare timeless classic that connects with all generations.
