Ahead of the release of her latest drama “Christmas Karma,” filmmaker Gurinder Chadha made a splash in Mumbai to unveil her upcoming project.
Upon her arrival in the city, Gurinder joined a celebration for designer-turned-producer Manish Malhotra’s film “Gustaakh Ishq,” alongside renowned personalities like Rekha, Kajol, Shabana Azmi, and Karan Johar.
Gurinder shared some delightful moments from the event on social media, posting, “Landed in #mumbai to launch @christmaskarmamovie and hit the ground running with my dear friends celebrating @manishmalhotra05’s new film as producer @gustaakh_ishq. Huge congrats and bravo. @karanjohar @kajol #rekha @azmishabana18 @pvrcinemas_official (Red heart and raising hands emojis) (sic).”
As “Christmas Karma” prepares for its release on December 12, Gurinder opened up about the inspiration behind the film. She described how her Christmas celebrations begin with a beloved family ritual and shared that she still gets emotional watching “It’s A Wonderful Life” every holiday season.
Gurinder noted, “For me, Christmas begins with my annual family tradition, where I take my children to watch It’s A Wonderful Life at the Prince Charles Cinema in London. Every year, I cry buckets at the end while being moved by its life-affirming message. That love for classic holiday storytelling inspired Christmas Karma.”
She described the film as “My ode to Dickens and Capra with a contemporary twist,” emphasizing its exploration of what Christmas truly signifies in today’s divided world. Through “Christmas Karma,” she aims to illustrate how kindness, empathy, and hope can bridge the gap between hearts.
Additionally, Gurinder highlighted the infusion of Sikh philosophy in the movie. She explained, “‘Living is Giving’ is part of the teachings of Guru Nanak and Sikhism. Being a Sikh, the core message of ‘Ek On Khar’ (We are all one) resonates heavily for me in the making of my film.”
