Television actress Dipika Kakar has candidly shared one of the most vulnerable experiences of her life. She recounted the day she broke down at the thought of a possible cancer diagnosis, revealing that her only prayer was to return to good health for her son, Ruhaan.
In a heartfelt conversation with her husband, Shoaib Ibrahim, on actress Rashami Desai’s podcast “Rashami Ke Dil Se Dil Tak,” the couple discussed their journey from co-stars to life partners, including the challenges Dipika faced during her cancer scare.
A Heartfelt Moment
Dipika recalled a particular experience: “That was the first time that I sat in the car and I had to give Ruhaan to my mother as he was crying so much because I couldn’t feed him. And I just broke down. At that moment, a prayer came from my heart that if it’s cancer, I don’t have a complaint. I just want to get better. I know you will make me better. And then we both broke down there.”
She emphasized how terrifying the word ‘cancer’ can be. “If anyone is told that they have cancer, something breaks inside them. So that’s why Shoaib and I did all the crying in that lobby. We both hugged each other and cried there. But after that, we both decided that we wouldn’t cry anymore.”
Resilience and Love
Dipika expressed her resolve during that challenging period: “Honestly, I have no complaints about not looking good or gaining weight or whether my hair will fall out. Throughout all of this, I always told him that I just want to come back fine and be here for Ruhaan.”
Reflecting on her romance with Shoaib, she shared how their relationship blossomed through music: “We both would spend the whole day chatting with each other through songs. In the morning, I would get a line from a song from Shoaib, then I would think a little and reply with a line from a song as well. So songs have been a very prominent part of our relationship.”
Memorable Moments
Recalling her time on Bigg Boss, Dipika credited Shoaib and her sister Saba for helping her grow her Instagram following from under 1 million during her stint on the show. She fondly remembered the family week when Shoaib wrote a beautiful poem for her: “When Shoaib had come to the Bigg Boss house, he had written a beautiful poem for me. I started writing when Shoaib came into my life.”
As she reminisced, she recounted narrating her poems to other contestants’ family members, and just as she finished her last verse, she heard Shoaib’s voice. She aptly described their connection, quoting his line, “Baat use ki hoti hai jisme koi baat hot hai.”
A Comedic Touch
To lighten the mood, Shoaib humorously shared his fear of flying, a fear that manifested during a post-Nach Baliye trip to Goa. He remembered their first business class flight amid the heavy July rains. The turbulence was so severe that glasses slid across the plane, causing it to hover in the clouds for over 1.5 hours without landing.
Shoaib vividly described his panic, gripping his seatbelt tightly and praying throughout the ordeal. What amused him was that, in the midst of his anxiety, a couple in the next seat was openly expressing their love, enjoying their romantic moment despite the shaky situation.
