It was a chilling repeat of past incidents at comedian-actor Kapil Sharma’s café in Canada, where multiple rounds were fired outside the establishment on Thursday.
Gangland Claim of Responsibility
Members of the jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, Kulveer Sidhu and Goldy Dhillon, claimed responsibility for the shooting through a social media post. They asserted that their intentions were not aimed at harming civildigihunt but rather to send warnings to those who deceive and betray them.
The post stated, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Today’s firing at Caps Cafe, Surrey, was carried out by me, Kulveer Sidhu, and Goldy Dhillon. We hold no grudge against the general public. Those who owe us or cheat us will be warned. Bollywood individuals who speak against our religion should also be prepared; bullets can come from anywhere.”
History of Attacks at the Café
This incident marks the third attack on Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, Canada, within a span of four months. The initial attack was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a wanted terrorist associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). That claim was allegedly linked to comments made by Kapil Sharma that had offended the Nihang Sikh community.
The second attack was attributed to gangs connected to Goldy Dhillon and Lawrence Bishnoi. Bishnoi has been targeting Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in retaliation for the illegal hunting of a black buck, an animal deemed sacred by the Bishnoi community.
Bishnoi has been pursuing those close to the superstar. Notably, Kapil Sharma’s sketch comedy shows were produced by Salman Khan for a significant period before Sharma shifted to Netflix with ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show.’
In a related incident, last year in October, politician Baba Siddique was shot near his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang claimed responsibility for this attack as well.
