The family of the renowned cartoonist R.K. Laxman has announced their intention to honor his legacy by establishing the inaugural R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence.
Live Music Concert by A.R. Rahman
To celebrate this remarkable tribute, a live music concert featuring music maestro A.R. Rahman has been organized for November 23. The event will highlight the illustrious contributions of R.K. Laxman and is set to take place at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune, starting at 5 PM.
Usha Lakshman, the daughter-in-law of the late cartoonist, stated, “The R.K. Laxman family has organized an A.R. Rahman live music concert on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, at the MCA Cricket Stadium.” She added, “The concert will begin at 5 PM onwards, and during the event, we will be paying tribute to R.K. Laxman by instituting the first-ever R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence.”
Aamir Khan as the Award’s First Recipient
The first recipient of the R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence will be Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan. Usha expressed, “The recipient of this award will be Aamir Khan, and this will be the biggest tribute we, as a family, are offering to Laxman.”
R.K. Laxman, an iconic Indian cartoonist and illustrator, is best remembered for his creation ‘The Common Man’ and his daily cartoon strip ‘You Said It.’ He was also responsible for the sketches for the television adaptation of “Malgudi Days,” written by his elder brother, R.K. Narayan, and directed by Shankar Nag.
R.K. Laxman passed away in Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in 2015 at the age of 93. His illustrious career was recognized with the Padma Bhushan in 1973 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2005 by the Government of India. Additionally, he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Mysore in 2004.
