Hollywood actor Simu Liu is diving deep into his super spy fantasy with a thrilling eight-episode series now streaming on Peacock.
Immersive Experience
In “The Copenhagen Test,” Liu embraces the chance to fulfill a long-held dream. He stars as intelligence agent Alexander Hale, whose mind is compromised by a shadowy adversary aiming to destabilize his agency.
Themes and Relevance
Liu shared, “It was definitely the premise and the world-building, dealing with themes of surveillance and technology. A lot of those issues are really topical and relevant today. I appreciated Thomas’ take on this 5 minutes into the future, set in a world of intelligence.”
Cultural Depth
He was also captivated by the cultural nuances in Alexander’s backstory. “He embodies what it’s like for someone from an immigrant family to navigate an environment where they’re constantly second-guessed and underestimated. It resonates a lot with those of us who grew up in similar circumstances.”
Behind the Scenes
As both star and executive producer, Liu expresses his commitment to creating content that feels both universal and culturally specific. “I’m trying to get things made that reflect my own unique brand of different.”
Plot Highlights
With Hale’s mind at risk, his superiors leverage the situation, assigning fellow agent Michelle (Melissa Barrera) to pose as his girlfriend while they track down the source of the hack. Liu humorously noted, “It almost feels like being on Love Island. Michelle and Alexander are in their own reality TV show about finding love, while knowing the cameras are on them.”
There’s a rich layer of complexity to explore, and Liu praises Barrera as a fantastic scene partner.
