Rajinikanth hints at ‘Padayappa 2’ celebration for fans as film re-release nears for his 75th birthday.

Superstar Rajinikanth has revealed that he is currently discussing a sequel to his iconic film ‘Padayappa’. He mentioned that if the sequel turns out well, it could offer fans a celebratory experience akin to a festival.

In a video clip titled ‘The Return of Padayappa’, Rajinikanth shared these exciting details ahead of the film’s re-release. ‘Padayappa’ is set to return to theaters on December 12 to commemorate Rajinikanth’s 75th birthday.

During the video, Rajinikanth highlighted some intriguing aspects about the original film that fans might not know. He noted, “In my 50 years in the film industry, the first time women broke open the gates of a theatre to watch a film was during ‘Padayappa’. Now, with recent hits like ‘2.0’ and ‘Jailer 2’, it struck me—why not create a sequel for ‘Padayappa’? After all, Neelambari (played by Ramya Krishnan) mentioned in the first part, ‘I will at least take revenge in the next birth.’ So, the title will be ‘Neelambari – Padayappa 2’. We are discussing a story, and if the film comes out well, it will be another celebration for fans like what one witnesses in a festival.”

Rajinikanth also revealed that he was the actual producer of the original film and had conceptualized the storyline as well as the title.

“When we needed to think of a title, I suddenly suggested ‘Padayappa’. I don’t know how it came to my mind, but I felt it had a nice ring to it. Director K S Ravikumar was initially surprised and said, ‘I haven’t heard this word before. It sounds nice but also a bit old.’ I insisted it was a fitting choice, and he agreed to keep it,” Rajinikanth explained.
