Sr National Badminton: Surya Tamiri vs Tanvi Patri in women’s final; Rithvik and Bharat in men’s clash

Local favourite Surya Charishma Tamiri and the rising talent Tanvi Patri have set up a thrilling women’s singles final, while Rithvik Sanjeevi S will face Bharat Raghav in the men’s singles final of the Senior National Badminton Championships on Saturday.

All four players reached the finals after securing hard-fought victories in the semifinals.

Women’s Singles Results

Surya Charishma, having defeated top seed Unnati Hooda in the quarterfinals, overcame world number 45 Rakshita Sree R with a scoreline of 21-18, 18-21, 21-9. Tanvi, who came back from a game down, triumphed over Maharashtra’s Shruti Mundada, winning 18-21, 21-12, 21-15, making it to her first-ever senior nationals final.

Men’s Singles Results

In the men’s singles semifinals, Rithvik Sanjeevi S, the 2024 Odisha Masters winner, saved a match point to upset top seed Kiran George, clinching the match 21-16, 17-21, 22-20 in one hour and eight minutes. Rithvik will now compete against Bharat Raghav, who defeated second seed M Tharun 21-17, 11-21, 21-11 in 55 minutes.

Mixed Doubles Semifinals

In mixed doubles, top seeds Ashith Surya and Amrutha P. rallied from a slow start to defeat third seeds Deep Rambhiya and Sonali Mirkhelkar, winning 8-21, 21-18, 21-18. Meanwhile, second seeds Sathwik Reddy K. and Radhika Sharma emerged victorious over Nitin Kumar and Kanika Kanwal with a score of 21-13, 21-14.

Women’s Doubles Final Lineup

The women’s doubles final will showcase a matchup between former national champions. Third seeds Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat K. defeated Vennala K. and Reshika U. with a score of 21-11, 21-15. Second seeds Priya Devi Konjengban and Shruti Mishra also advanced, overcoming eighth seeds Aparna Balan and Simran Singhi 21-19, 21-14.

Earlier, Surya Charishma Tamiri and experienced player Shruti Mundada had upset the top two seeds in straight games to advance to the semifinals. Surya Charishma dominated top seed Unnati Hooda, winning 21-12, 21-15 in just 36 minutes, while Shruti defeated second seed and former national champion Anupama Upadhyaya 22-20, 21-12 in 39 minutes.

In the men’s singles category, top seed Kiran George had to exert effort to get past 11th seed Rounak Chauhan, winning 21-18, 21-18 in 41 minutes.
