On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that Mohanlal would receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

The ministry stated on its X timeline, “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.”

In celebrating Mohanlal’s illustrious cinematic journey, the post added, “Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history.”

The award will be presented to Mohanlal on September 23 at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony.

Previously, the Government of India honoured Mohanlal with the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his contributions to Indian cinema. In 2009, he became the first actor in the Indian film industry to be awarded the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army.

The makers of director and actor Dhanush’s upcoming action-packed emotional drama, “Idli Kadai,” featuring Dhanush and Nithya Menen in leading roles, have released a trailer that has delighted fans and film enthusiasts.

Trailer Release and Dhanush’s Message

Actor Dhanush shared links to the Tamil and Telugu trailers on his social media, simply captioning it, “Idli kadai trailer.”

The trailer introduces Dhanush’s character, Murugan, who hails from humble beginnings. His father, Rajkiran, runs a small idly shop in their village, filled with love and dedication. When a teenage Murugan urges his father to buy a grinding machine, his father responds, “A machine can do anything, but it lacks the practiced touch of a human hand. That comes from the human heart.” This lesson shapes Murugan’s belief in wholeheartedly enjoying whatever work one undertakes.

The Corporate Journey

As the story unfolds, we see Arun Vijay portraying the heir to a large company where Murugan is now employed. Murugan’s arrival has led to a remarkable 15% increase in profits for Arun Vijay’s firm.

Despite this success, Murugan’s father worries about the fate of their shop once he is gone. However, his mother believes that her son will eventually return to his roots to manage the business. This eventual decision doesn’t sit well with Arun Vijay, and the film delves into the conflict that arises.

A Personal Project

Dhanush has expressed that “Idli Kadai” is a deeply personal project for him. Notably, it marks the first time his grandmother has acted in one of his films.

The actor elaborated on the film’s message, emphasizing the importance of staying connected to one’s roots. “What is your identity? Studying well, getting a good degree, and landing a good job give you a respectable position. But our true identity lies in our ancestral roots,” he states. He believes it’s essential to cherish and remember the lives of ancestors rather than letting their memories fade away.

In his words, “Just like a bird searches for food and returns to its nest, we must not forget the path we took in search of a livelihood. This essence is what ‘Idli Kadai’ conveys.”

Release Details and Cast Information

Originally, Dawn Pictures announced that the film would release worldwide on April 10. However, this has now been postponed to October 1.

Sources indicate that Arun Vijay plays the film’s antagonist, and viewers can anticipate a gripping face-off between him and Dhanush. Shalini Pandey also has a significant role in the film.

“Idli Kadai,” directed by Dhanush himself, is jointly produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and Dawn Pictures, with cinematography by Kiran Koushik and music composed by G V Prakash.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal has expressed her heartfelt sorrow over the sudden passing of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg at the age of 52.

On Thursday, Vyjayanthi Movies took to social media to announce Deepika’s departure from the project, emphasizing that a film of this magnitude requires “commitment and much more.”

After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. Young music sensation, Sai Abhyankkar, one of Tamil cinema’s fastest-growing music directors, has clarified that there is no competition between him and renowned music director Anirudh, despite media speculation.

Sai Abhyankkar attended the pre-release event of director Unni Sivalingam’s bilingual sports action drama ‘Balti,’ marking his first press conference. When asked whether there was a competitive rivalry in the current music scene between him and Anirudh, he responded, “That is not true. Anirudh has done a lot. I have only now started. With all your prayers and blessings, I am only looking forward to working more. There is no competition at all.”
