For those unfamiliar, SS Karthikeya is the son of renowned director SS Rajamouli and is producing the upcoming film “Varanasi,” which is set to release in January 2027. Directed by S.S. The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) has taken a significant step towards enhancing international academic collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deakin University, Australia. This agreement was finalized during the Waves Bazaar, which is being held alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025.

This MoU is a key part of the Australia–India Creative Collaboration initiative, in partnership with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). It encapsulates the shared vision of both IICT and Deakin University to promote innovation, academic excellence, and cross-disciplinary engagement in creative and technology-led education.

Vishwas Deoskar, CEO of IICT, remarked, “This collaboration strengthens our mission to nurture global talent and push the boundaries of immersive and interactive media education.”

Under this agreement, IICT and Deakin University will collaborate on various academic programs, training, and research in creative and applied technologies. This includes organizing workshops and masterclasses aimed at promoting both student and faculty mobility. Additionally, the partnership will work with industry stakeholders to ensure a meaningful real-world impact.

IICT also showcased a dedicated booth at Waves Bazaar, allowing delegates to participate in interactive activities and learn about the institution’s innovative programs and initiatives.

In conjunction with this, the 56th International Film Festival of India is featuring 18 meticulously restored classics from the Indian film industry, brought back to life under the National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM), managed by the NFDC and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI).

Notable films in this collection include Ritwik Ghatak’s “Subarnarekha”, Muzaffar Ali’s “Umrao Jaan”, and “Guman”, along with Kalpana Lajmi’s “Rudaali”, B.N. Reddi’s “Malleswari”, Raj Khosla’s “C.I.D”, Guru Dutt’s “Pyaasa”, V. Shantaram’s “Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani”, Baburao Painter’s “Muraliwala”, Ramesh Saigal’s “Shaheed”, and Mani Ratnam’s “Gitanjali”, “Ek Doctor Ki Maut”, “Ek Hota Vidushak”, “Kireedam”, and “Musafir”.

These restorations serve to honor the contributions of some of India’s most revered cinematic figures.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted a U/A certificate for director J K Chandru’s action-comedy entertainer, ‘Revolver Rita’, featuring actress Keerthy Suresh in the lead role.

Originally set to release on August 27 for the festival of Vinayaka Chathurthi, the film’s launch was postponed. It is now slated to hit screens worldwide on November 28 this year.

In the teaser, thugs snatch Keerthy Suresh’s handbag while she shops for vegetables from a push cart. Upon reaching their hideout, the thugs discover a revolver, a bloodstained butcher’s knife, and a bomb inside the bag. Moments later, Keerthy arrives and demands her bag back along with its contents.

The startled criminals inquire whether she is a RAW agent, an underworld don, or a cop. Keerthy doesn’t provide a clear response. Soon, she receives a call from Radhika Sarathkumar, playing her mother in the film, asking about the tomatoes as she is preparing a meal. Keerthy responds, “Keep the stove on sim and I am on my way.”

Production Details

Produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy, the movie features music composed by Sean Roldan. Apart from Keerthy Suresh and Radikaa Sarathkumar, the cast includes actors Sunil, Ajay Ghosh, Redin Kingsley, Super Subbarayan, and John Vijay, among others.

Cinematography is by Dinesh Krishnan, with editing handled by National Award-winning editor Praveen K L. The art direction is by MKT, and stunts are choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan.

During the title promo launch event, Vineeth Varaprasad shared that Harish Kalyan portrays a rapper in the film. He expressed his excitement, stating, “Although this is my second film, this is the first time that I have got a stage to express myself. I was not given a stage the last time I did a film. That was when I decided that instead of wondering why I wasn’t given a stage, I will create a stage myself for several other people.”

He continued, “I wanted to lift others up and enjoy that experience. In this film, I have got 137 junior artistes to act, and we have identified eight new rappers through this project.”

Plot and Theme

The film focuses on the life of a young rapper. Vineeth noted, “Dashamakan will be a musical-oriented film. It is not purely a musical because a lot of other elements are included.”

Talking about his connection to the title, he shared, “Dashamakan is a place that I grew up in. It is very familiar to me. Many people celebrate Chennai, and being someone who grew up here, I wanted to showcase this city to the world the way I saw it. Chennai is a place that nurtures talent, and several talented people and progressive thinkers have emerged from here. I think North Madras is the Brazil of Chennai, and I believe I have captured that in this film.”
