Stand-up star and actor Vir Das began his day with a sharp quip about Mumbai’s deteriorating air quality, stating he has reached a point where coughing has become unnecessary as his lungs have “adapted.”
Vir shared a video on Instagram from his living room, using a smoke filter for effect. The text overlay on the clip read: “Morning from Mumbai.”
In the video, he mentioned: “Morning from Mumbai everyone, hope everybody’s doing well. I’m not gonna cough at this point, my lungs have adapted, it’s fine. Oh, you think this is the outside? No, this is what’s happening inside you (sic).”
Mumbai has been enveloped in a thick layer of smog this week, with the city gradually slipping into the ‘very poor’ air category. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has now entered the severe category.
Highlighting his career, Vir Das transitioned from stand-up comedy to cinema, featuring in films like Badmaash Company, Delhi Belly, and Go Goa Gone. He performed the Netflix special Abroad Understanding in 2017.
Vir has appeared in around 35 plays, over 100 stand-up shows, 18 films, eight television shows, and six comedy specials. He made his American television debut in 2019 with the series Whiskey Cavalier. In 2023, he won the International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series for the Netflix special Vir Das: Landing.
Most recently, Vir was seen in The Bubble, a 2022 comedy directed by Judd Apatow. This film stars Karen Gillan, Vir Das, Pedro Pascal, Iris Apatow, among others, and follows the cast and crew of a blockbuster action franchise attempting to film a sequel while quarantining at a luxury hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the fictional realm, he appeared in Call Me Bae, alongside Ananya Panday, Gurfateh Pirzada, and others.
