Vimath Dinsara named captain of Sri Lanka for the 2026 U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup

Vimath Dinsara will captain Sri Lanka in the 2026 Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, as confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Kavija Gamage has been appointed as vice-captain for the tournament, which kicks off on January 15 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Squad Composition

The squad features a strong mix of promising batters including Dinsara, Gamage, and Mahavithana, alongside versatile all-rounders Viran Chamuditha and Chamika Heentigala. Sri Lanka is set to depart for Namibia on Thursday and reached the Super Six stage in the previous edition of the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup held in South Africa in 2024.

Group Stage Fixtures

Sri Lanka has been placed in Group C, which includes defending champions Australia, Ireland, and Japan. The team’s campaign will open against Japan on January 17 at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. They will also face Ireland and Australia at the same venue on January 19 and 23, respectively.

Tournament Format

The 16th edition of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup will feature 16 teams divided into four groups of four. Each team will play the other three teams in its group during the opening round, with the top three progressing to the Super Six stage. The leading four teams will qualify for the semifinals, which will take place on February 3 and 4 in Bulawayo and Harare. The final is scheduled for February 6 at the Harare Sports Club.

Other Teams Announced

Ireland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Japan, Scotland, Australia, West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, and India have previously announced their squads for the U19 World Cup.

In total, 16 teams will participate in the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will feature 41 matches. The teams are divided into four groups, with the top three from each group advancing to the Super Six stage. Fourth-placed teams in Groups A and D will face each other, while those in Groups B and C will play against each other in the placement stage.
