Veteran singer Kavita Krishnamurthy recalls her early years of singing during her college days and how renowned singer and composer Hemant Kumar asked her to record a song for him.

She says: “When I started singing in college, Hemant da was the chief guest so eventually, I started singing with him on stage. Then suddenly one day, I got a call from Hemant da and I was asked, ‘What are my plans for tomorrow?’ To which, I said, ‘Dada, I am going to college.’

He said: “No no, don’t go to college, you just reach Raj Kamal studio at 10 am. While Lata Mangeshkar ji is coming.


Kavita Krishnamurthy further says that she forgot the lines of her song as she kept watching Lata Mangeshkar singing in front of her.

She adds: “Anyway, I get nervous when I sing in front of people, I am not a stage person. At that time, I really felt like saying to Hemant da that it would be better if I leave it as I will not be able to do it. After sometime the door opened and ‘Devi ji’ Lata ji in white saree entered and I swear, I can’t tell you, but my heart skipped a beat. During the last rehearsal, I completely forgot my lines as I was lost watching Lata ji sing into the mike.

“Hemant da then looked at me and asked, ‘Why didn’t I sing? Don’t forget now, we are starting to take, don’t make a mistake!’ Lata ji then turned to me and in her classic manner lowered her glasses, looked at me and smiled as she understood what was going on.

Kavita Krishnamurthy rose to fame with the track ‘Tumse Milar, Na Jaane Kyun’ in the 1985 film ‘Pyaar Jhukta Nahi’ and later went on to sing in films like ‘1942: A Love Story’, ‘Yaarana’, ‘Agni Sakshi’. , ‘Bhairavi’, and ‘Khamoshi’. He also performed in concert in India and abroad as well as at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London.

She will be seen as a celebrity guest in the singing reality show ‘Indian Idol 13’ along with Anuradha Paudwal. She also talks about Anuradha and mentions that though she looks cute from outside, she is quite ‘naughty’ from inside. Later, she also calls him extremely ‘talented’.

Talking about Anuradha, Kavita Krishnamurthy said that she has not changed at all.
