Special Judge Shailendra Malik sent Irani to her custody till December 3 for questioning on the application of the police. Police have claimed that she was in touch with the main accused Chandrashekhar and was aware of his criminal activities. She allegedly portrayed Chandrasekhar as a very big businessman and was instrumental in facilitating his meetings with some Bollywood personalities. Seeking Irani’s four-day custody, the police told the court that there was a need to trace the extortion money and identify the properties and other helpers.
However, the defense counsel opposed the remand application on the ground that the facts mentioned in the remand application of the EOW are exactly the same as in the ED’s application. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a chargesheet on August 17 naming Fernandes as an accused in the multi-crore money laundering case involving Chandrashekhar. According to the ED, Fernandes and another Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi had received luxury cars and other expensive gifts from Chandrasekhar.
