Twinkle Khanna On Exposing In Films: Writer and former actress Twinkle Khanna recalled a situation where a director wanted her to wear transparent clothes during a rain sequence. Twinkle said that the filmmaker asked if she could “do Mandakini” for a song in a scene. Twinkle said that after the ‘Mandakini’ incident, the director never spoke to her or cast her again for any film.
In a conversation with Waheeda Rehman, shared on the Tweak India YouTube channel, Twinkle opened up about the abuse she faced. Twinkle said, ‘I had something similar, but a bit more graphic. I was wearing a white kurta, and was ready for the song Baarish, and the director came imitating Guru Dutt wrapped in a shawl. And he says, ‘What would you say if I asked you to do Mandakini?’ I said that I would say two things. First, I will say ‘No’, and second, ‘You are not Raj Kapoor’.
Twinkle further said, ‘He never spoke to me, he never cast me again, and it was terrible’. But one has to stand his ground. In the film Mela, Twinkle acted in a rain song, where she also wore a white kurta. The film was directed by Dharmesh Darshan.
The song “Tujhe Bulain Yeh Meri Baahen” from the movie “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” shows Mandakini standing next to a waterfall wearing a white transparent saree.
Talking about acting career, Twinkle had said at her book launch event in 2018, ‘I have not given any hit film. All the films I have done should be banned and no one should see them. Most of the time, I pretend I have Alzheimer’s and don’t remember my film career and it makes me happy that way. Please tell that Twinkle is currently doing Masters in Fiction Writing from London University.
