Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who was on life support at Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, died on Saturday due to multi-organ failure. He was 77 years old. Following his death, the hospital released a statement that read, “We are saddened to announce that noted actor Shri Vikram Gokhale passed away today at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital due to multi-organ failure. Our deepest sympathies.” The actor was being treated for various age-related ailments at the hospital, where he was admitted earlier this week. His health condition had remained critical for the last few days.

Vikram Gokhale played roles of all genres in his career spanning five decades – be it a comedy film, a drama or one highlighting social issues. He has portrayed versatile characters on screen – a doctor, a father, a businessman, a police officer and a villain. Let’s take a look at his best performances by Vikram Gokhale to remember him.



This 2013 film garnered him the Vikram Gokhale National Award for Best Actor in a Marathi film. He co-starred with Neena Kulkarni in this Gajendra Ahire directorial venture. Due to its performances and storyline, Vikram Gokhale earned acclaim from critics and fans alike. The story revolves around a man who is ready to go to any extent to pay the hospital bills of his comatose wife.


After proving his mettle as an actor, Vikram Gokhale ventured into direction with the 2010 Marathi film Aghat. He played the lead role in the film which showed how most of the private hospitals treat the patients and their families for their profit.

Agneepath, directed by Mukul Anand, marked Vikram Gokhale’s collaboration with Amitabh Bachchan after Parvana. The late actor garnered much acclaim for playing the role of Commissioner MS Gaitonde in the 90s crime-thriller, which starred Big B in the lead.

I gave my heart, my love

Vikram Gokhale co-starred with Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in this romantic musical drama. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film revolves around a man who helps his wife reunite with her lover after he learns the truth about their marriage. Vikram Gokhale appeared in the film as music maestro Pandit Darbar, father of Nandini (played by Aishwarya).


Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, Natsamrat starred Vikram Gokhale as Rambhau. The adaptation of a famous play by VV Shirwadkar had Nana Patekar in the lead and Vikram Gokhale as his best friend. He was highly praised for bringing the character of Rambhau, who helped his friend to bring his new phase of life after retirement, to life on-screen.


One of the best performances of Vikram Gokhale is his portrayal of Dhirendra Raisinghania in the TV series Virudh. The lead role was played by Smriti Irani, who appeared as his daughter in the soap opera that aired from 2007–2008. He was a well-known face in the television industry.
