Bollywood actor Kumud Mishra, who was in Jaipur on Monday to participate in Aavaa Lit Festival ‘Abhivikti’ Season 2, said OTT has given many opportunities to theater actors and writers.
When asked if OTT has limited the cinema space, he said, “Yeh sirf time ki baat hai (It is a matter of time). You never know what’s trending at the moment but everything has its own charm and place.
Kumud Mishra further said that he loves theater and the aroma of the stage and the audience sitting in front attracts him a lot. He added, “Theatres can never die and will never die.”
When asked why he did not join the Army despite being from Rashtriya Military School, Kumud Mishra said, “I always aspired to join the Army and I miss it a lot. Most of my batchmates are in the army. I see them in uniform, sit with them and that’s how I recreate those lost moments.”
Elaborating his answer, he said, “I had cleared my SSB but was talking about theater in my interview. When the interviewers asked me why I still want to go to the army when I am so keen on the world of theatre, I replied that I am here because I do not want to disturb my parents.
Although now I am doing army character, he quipped that he will come back to Jaipur with his play ‘Dhoomrapan’.
Kumud Mishra cited Nasir Bhai (Naseeruddin Shah) and Alok Chatterjee as his inspirations.
When asked about the trend of Bollywood boycott, he said, “If there are good films, people will come and watch and if they are not good, there is no need to boycott as people will stop going to cinema halls.”
Speaking on his film ‘Jogi’ released on OTT, he termed the 1984 riots as the ‘dark chapter of Indian history’.
