Actor, director and producer Prakash Raj plays a cop in the web series ‘Mukhbir: The Story of a Spy’, which tells the story of an Indian secret agent in Pakistan who played a key role in the 1965 war.
The 57-year-old actor opened up about the reason behind saying ‘yes’ to his first OTT series and the USP of the show.
Prakash Raj plays the role of ‘Bhagat’, an Intelligence Bureau officer who trains undercover agents.
On being a part of the series, Prakash Raj says: “OTT platforms have opened up a lot of opportunities. There are a dozen scripts that I want to explore. Having said that, I look forward to roles where I am relevant and only then choose to join that space. ,
On debuting with ‘Mukhbir’, Prakash Raj says, ‘This is my first web series. It is a very fresh script which revolves around the journey of a detective and very magically portrays the 60s, the era of Shastri ji (Late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri), when I was born had not happened and our country was an uncharted territory. The humanity and the way the heroes shine through in the script from unexpected unseen situations is a wonder. I like how the story unfolds.
The actor has worked in several Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films.
When asked about the USP of the show, he shared: “I think the USP of ‘Mukhbir’ is that it is a slice-of-life series. It’s surreal. It makes you experience something you’ve never seen before. Haven’t seen or heard of it and that’s the beauty of it.
“Some shows leave that impression on you. You feel like it’s your story, you’re everywhere and it’s sole purpose is much more than entertainment. It is rejuvenating. It makes you open your eyes. It’s a new world, your mind travels through historical times. It’s a different feeling. ‘Mukhbir’ holds your hand and takes you through the dramas and dilemmas the country has gone through,” said Prakash Raj.
Directed by Shivam Nair and Jaiprad Desai, ‘Mukhbir’ streams on ZEE5.
