TV actress Sayantani Ghosh talks about making her audio debut with ‘Cursed’ and the medium she chose after being a part of the TV industry for so long.

She says: “As an artist I have been working for 18-19 years. And I am always on the lookout for these new challenges, new topics, so that I am also interested and emotionally motivated. When I was approached and given the opportunity to be a part of ‘Cursed’, I was really excited as it is a medium which I have not yet ventured into the world of audio. Of course, I was a little scared too.”

The 38-year-old actress further shared that audio shows are quite relatable as they are like those fairy tales that we used to hear from our grandparents during our childhood days.

“I am sure most of us have gone through this, where our grandparents used to tell us different stories. Fantasy-based stories propel us to sleep and things like that. So that was something I was most excited about because I knew the power to connect was already inherent in our upbringing in our cultural way. And then came this narrative ‘Cursed’ and my character Ghazala, which was brilliant without giving much away,” she adds.

‘Cursed’ is about the Shah family, who are cursed. And people in that family are getting killed. And behind this curse is Ghazla, who is a singer, because she was in love with a member of the Shah family but was burnt alive and thus cursed the entire family.

Sayantani told IANS, “It was very challenging, the medium itself because whatever I was doing, I had to do it with my voice. I had to learn a lot of things like how to handle the mic and the hardest part was without any scenes. The feelings and the whole experience had to be brought to the fore.”

Sayantani has been a part of the TV industry for a long time. She was seen in the popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss 6’ and later played the role of Satyavati in ‘Mahabharata’ in 2013. The actress also received a positive response for playing an antagonist in ‘Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar’.

Now that she is trying out a completely new medium, the actress finds it really exciting and completely different from what she has been doing till now.

“I’ve been a part of a lot of supernatural fiction. But it’s different because I don’t have a visual medium. So it becomes very difficult. Even as an artist when I’m shooting for something So I have a monitor to go and see how my scenes turn out. But here I don’t have that. Even if I want to dub for a scene, I’ve already done basic homework. I have my co-stars around me and then everyone has their inputs. But here only I am standing in front of the mic and imagining the whole story and what is happening around my character in the show.”

However, what matters to him is the content. “What excites me is a good story and a good character. And that was the reason why I thought of doing an audio show. I have always wanted to be a part of good content and I am getting those opportunities. First I was doing television, then I ventured into the audio world, maybe web in the future, but good storytelling excites me,” she concluded.

‘Cursed’ is available on Audible.

Sayantani Ghosh is a well-known name in the Indian television industry, having been a part of various reality TV shows as well as shows like Naagin, Mahabharat, Naamkaran, Tera Yaar Hoon Main, Bigg Boss etc.
