Beware of fake PAN SMS update, SBI says, protect yourself this way

Here is a warning to the customers of the State Bank of India (SBI). A fake SMS is circulating asking SBI account holders to update their PAN number to avoid having their account blocked. Inform about the same, PIB Fact Check tweeted“A #Fake message issued on behalf of SBI asks customers to update their PAN number to avoid having their account blocked.”

According to the information “Dear customer, your SBI YONO account has been closed today, contact us now and update your PAN number details”, the fake message that is going viral. PIB has further warned that people should never respond to emails/texts asking to share their personal or banking information. PIB also advised people to report such fake messages to report.phishing@sbi.co.in.

“Never respond to emails/texts asking you to share your personal or banking information. Please report to report.phishing@sbi.co.in,” the message read. It also said that the bank never asks for personal information through messages.

The Treasury Department also announced on Monday that SBI had been authorized to issue and redeem election bonds through its 29 authorized branches from Nov. 9-15. to issue and redeem election bonds through its 29 authorized branches (as per the attached list) from 9/11/2022 to 15/11/2022,” the ministry said, as quoted by a Live Mint in a report.

Online Fraud Alert Tips

Step 1:

SBI has said that people only need to enter the UPI PIN while paying online.

Step 2:

UPI PIN is only needed for transferring money and not for receiving. Always check the mobile number, name and UPI ID before sending money.

Step 3:

Never share the UPI PIN with anyone. The scanner is preferably used for transferring money.

Step 4:

Do not seek a solution from other than official sources. Use the help section of the app for any payment or technical problem and, in the event of a discrepancy, seek a solution through the bank’s complaint handling portal.
