Diljit Dosanjh To Work With Ali Abbas Zafar: Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is ready for his next Hindi film. Directed by ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ fame Ali Abbas Zafar, the film is titled ‘Jogi’ and is based on the 1984 riots. While Diljit is known globally for his music, the actor has been very picky in choosing Hindi film projects. Talking about ‘Jogi’, Diljit said that this subject is very close to his heart.
He told Hindustan Times, “The year of my birth is also 1984. I grew up hearing about real life experiences and riots and stories about that era. In fact, I did a Punjabi film a while back in Punjab 1984. Which also won the National Film Award. So, the subject matter is really important to me, and Ali sir has chosen the right story.”

The film will release directly on Netflix and is scheduled to release on 16 September. Diljit feels this is the right path for the release as it will reach a wider audience. He said, “It is very important for us to tell the story of the incident to the people. Everyone should know about this. That’s why a film coming on an OTT platform was necessary for this. Because this topic has not yet been explored in the digital space. This is the perfect opportunity for us to tell the story.”
Diljit recalled that when he was shooting for Punjab in 1984 in the village, the residents would often say that it was not a film, it was his life. He said, “There was a sense of reality with us this time as well. There was a day when Ali sir also got emotional during a scene. Such is the feeling and atmosphere on the sets.” Diljit’s 2020 ‘Suraj Pe Mangal’ Bhari hasn’t appeared in any Hindi film since. The last Punjabi film in which he was seen was 2021’s ‘Honsala Rakh’, which also starred Shahnaz Gill and Sonam Bajwa.
