Paddy Farmers To Benefit As Government Hikes Minimum Support Price

Government has increased the minimum support price of paddy

New Delhi:

The government on Wednesday raised the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy by Rs 100 to Rs 2,040 per quintal for the 2022-23 crop year.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the increase in MSP for all mandatory Kharif (summer) crops for the 2022-23 crop year.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters, “The MSP of 14 Kharif crops was approved in today’s cabinet meeting.”

The MSP of common variety of paddy has been increased from Rs 1,940 last year to Rs 2,040 per quintal for the 2022-23 crop year.

The support price of ‘A’ grade variety of paddy has been increased from Rs 1,960 to Rs 2,060 per quintal.

Paddy is the main crop of Kharif, sowing of which has started. The Meteorological Department has forecast a normal monsoon for the June-September period.

The minister also highlighted several programs launched by the Modi government during the last eight years to increase the income of farmers and ensure comprehensive development of the agriculture sector.
