  • CBSE will go back to conduct Class 10 and Class 12 board exams in a single-exam format from the next academic session, confirmed sources cited in the report.
  • The official said that the CBSE had never confirmed that the two-exam format would continue and it was a “one-time formula”. “CBSE never announced that the two-term exam format would continue from now on. It was a one time formula. Now that the schools are functioning at full capacity, the decision for now is to stick to the one-time examination format,” the official said in the report.
  • CBSE had pushed to go back to the earlier mode after representations from schools on the decision to conduct CBSE Class 10 exams and CBSE Class 12 exams in a single exam format.
  • Speaking about syllabus rationalization, the official said: “NCERT will send us the details of rationalization based on which an announcement will be made. Schools can teach the reduced syllabus using existing books.
  • “While board exams for grades X and XII will continue, the existing system of board and entrance examinations will be reformed to eliminate the need to start coaching classes. To remove these harmful effects of the current evaluation system, the board examinations will be redesigned to encourage holistic development,” the official told The Indian Express.

CBSE is likely to make an official announcement soon that the board exams of CBSE Class 10 and CBSE Class 12 will be conducted in a single-mode format from the next academic session.
