New Delhi: A student was seriously injured when a portion of the bathroom ceiling collapsed in a hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Thursday morning. The incident happened due to moisture in Sabarmati Hostel. BA 2nd year student has been taken to Safdarjung Hospital by the hostel warden. His condition is said to be stable. “It is a clear case of criminal negligence on the part of the hostel warden and the dean of students. We have repeatedly raised the issue of dilapidated hostel infrastructure and collapsed ceiling with the authorities, but JNU administration is trying to suppress the issue in the name of paucity of funds,” said Madhurima Kundu, activist of All India Students Association . “We have not received the funds. We have sought Rs 54 crore for major repair work in the hostels but approval is awaited. We have done minor renovation work in Brahmaputra Hostel. After Sabarmati Hostel, Narmada’s place will be there. These are old hostels,” he said.
However, a senior police officer said, “We have not received any PCR call or any complaint in this regard so far.”
