Despite the rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar on December 30 requested the government of Delhi to reopen the theaters. In a social media post, Johar asked the government to run theaters and said they are urging the Delhi government to run cinemas. Compared to other out-of-home settings, movie theaters have a superior ability to maintain a hygienic atmosphere while also enforcing social distancing rules. This happened after the Producers Guild of India made a similar request, claiming that theaters create a safe environment for moviegoers.
KJo, on the other hand, has received a response for the tweet, with netizens shooting at him and asking if anyone can tell him he’s talking about people. It’s not just about setting up theatres. It’s about the people who will create a crowd from their homes to movie theaters and beyond. One tweet stated that wealthy individuals should broaden their horizons. Another tweet stated that cinemas can be seen on digital platforms, but people will die as the infection rate rises and oxygen becomes scarce.
We are urging the Delhi government to keep cinemas running. Movie theaters are equipped with a better ability to provide a hygienic environment while maintaining social distancing standards compared to other outdoor environments. @LtGovDelhi @ArvindKejriwal @OfficeOfDyCM #cinemasaresafe

Following a spike in COVID-19 cases caused by the appearance of the Omicron variant, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered a yellow warning in the state on December 28, requiring schools, universities, theaters and gyms to close. Meanwhile, the Multiplex Group of India (MAI) released a statement earlier in the day, which the association posted on social media. On December 30, a team of MAI members met with Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to ask for his help in reopening movie theaters, expressing concerns about filmmakers opting for digital releases over theatrical releases. The first teaser for Liger was recently released and we can’t wait to see it. To add to our enthusiasm, filmmaker Karan Johar posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos on his Instagram account. In the film of Puri Jagannadh, Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday play the lead roles. The film’s producers have enlisted the help of legendary boxer Mike Tyson.
