Mumbai: Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday announced that the government has decided to reopen schools for classes 1 to 4 in rural areas and classes 1 to 7 in urban areas from December 1. “After discussions with the Chief Minister, the Cabinet and the Pediatric Task Force, the state cabinet has decided to reopen schools from classes 1-4 in rural areas and classes 1-7 in urban areas from December 1. To recall, earlier, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said that the health department has no problem in starting schools from class I to VII in the state. However, he had indicated that the final decision in this regard would be taken in the meeting of the Chief Minister and the Cabinet. Rajesh Tope also suggested that the Child Task Force should be allowed to start from 1st to 4th standard following social distancing. He appealed to the parents to send their students to the school after the decision of the Chief Minister and have faith in the school management. Maharashtra Covid Tally:

Maharashtra recorded 960 new coronavirus infections and 41 deaths in the last 24 hours, while the number of active cases remained below 10,000 for the fourth day in a row, the health department said on Wednesday evening. The caseload in the state rose to 66,32,257 and the death toll rose to 1,40,807, the department said.

On Tuesday, the state had reported 19 new deaths and 766 new cases. 1,043 patients were discharged, taking the total number of cured patients to 64,78,422. The recovery rate in the state is 97.68 percent while the death rate is 2.12 percent.

The number of coronavirus tests conducted so far increased to 6,49,51,994 with 1,07,098 samples tested since Tuesday evening. There are 9,366 active cases in the state.
