New Delhi: Civil Services Exam 2020 topper Shubham Kumar on Friday said that his dream of becoming an IAS officer and serving the underprivileged has come true. Talking to news agency PTI, he said that development of villages, employment generation and poverty alleviation would be his focus areas in rural areas of the country. “My dream was to join the IAS as it provides a wider platform to work for the betterment of the people. This is felt and I want to work for the underprivileged people especially in rural areas.

Kumar said that during the service, his focus would be on areas like poverty alleviation and development of villages and its people. “There are many areas in which we can work to uplift all the underprivileged and bring about a positive change,” he said.

Kumar also said that he got a lot of support from his father and the academy, especially its director, in preparing for the exam. Kumar said, “My father used to motivate me a lot and help me maintain a positive attitude, which helped me clear the exams.” He said that his father works as a bank manager in Bihar.

  1. Kumar, 24, topped the civil services exam in his third attempt.
  2. After passing the Civil Services Examination 2019, he got selected in the Digihuntn Defense Accounts Service (IDAS). Kumar could not make it to the 2018 exam in his first attempt.
  3. A Bachelor of Technology (Civil Engineering) graduate from IIT Bombay, he has passed the 2020 examination with Anthropology as his optional subject.
  4. Hailing from Katihar, Bihar, Kumar is currently undergoing training at the National Academy of Defense Financial Management (NADFM), Pune.
  5. The younger of two siblings, her elder sister works as a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC).
